Compulsory formalities for a stay in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is an increasingly popular tourist destination, thanks to its breathtaking landscapes and rich culture. Before setting off to discover this magnificent country, it is essential to find out about the administrative formalities to be complied with.

Identity papers and passport

To enter Azerbaijan, French nationals must have a valid passport. It is important to check that the passport has a sufficiently long expiry date: it must be valid for at least 3 months after the date on which the visa is due to expire.

Holders of a national identity card may not use it to travel to Azerbaijan, even if accompanied by a family record book or other supporting document.

Visa for Azerbaijan

You need a visa to enter Azerbaijan. There are several types of visa, depending on the length of stay and the reasons for the visit:

  • Tourist visa for people making a short trip (up to 30 days) for tourism or family reasons.
  • Business visa for people travelling to Azerbaijan on business (up to 90 days).
  • Study visa for students wishing to undertake a work placement or training course in Azerbaijan (up to 1 year, renewable).
  • Work visa for people hired by an Azerbaijani company. The period of validity varies according to the employment contract.

To obtain a visa, you need to apply to the Azerbaijani embassy or consulate in your country of residence. You can also apply online here via the ASAN Vizawhich provides a e-visa in just a few days.

Visa requirements

Several documents are required to obtain a visa for Azerbaijan:

  • A valid passport (see conditions above).
  • A passport photo to international standards.
  • A proof of accommodation for the duration of the stay (hotel reservation, reception certificate, etc.).
  • A certificate of travel insurancecovering medical, hospital and repatriation costs in the event of an emergency.
  • The application form for a visa, duly completed and signed.
  • The payment of visa fees (variable depending on the type and length of stay).

Depending on your situation, other documents may be required, such as a letter of invitation, medical certificate or proof of income. Don't hesitate to contact the relevant authority to find out the exact conditions for obtaining your visa.

Vaccines and travel health

There are no compulsory vaccinations for travelling to Azerbaijan. However, it is advisable to check that your vaccinations are up to date, particularly those against diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis and hepatitis A. Depending on your state of health and the length of your stay, additional vaccinations may be recommended (hepatitis B, typhoid, etc.).

To avoid health problems during your trip, you should also follow a few rules of food hygiene: drink bottled water, wash fruit and vegetables well before eating, and eat cooked rather than raw food...
